Random Facts
Fanny and Sanne Karlsson of Play both attended Rytmus High School, a school for music, in Stockholm. They knew each other prior to their time together in Play.
Fanny admits to being "very afraid of sharks."
Fanny has studied Spanish language and loves Madrid.
A huge fan of Lady GaGa, Fanny saw her in concert once when GaGa performed in Stockholm.
Fanny was a member of Play's original lineup and was considered by the some the group's "lead singer," but she left Play in 2003 to focus on her education and personal life. She was replaced by Janet Leon, who recorded as a part of Play the group's final two albums, Don't Stop the Music and Play Around the Christmas Tree, before Play's temporary retirement. When plans for Play to reunite came about, it was Fanny, Anaïs, and Rosanna, of the original Play, who accepted the offer. (Rosanna was later replaced by Sanne when she dropped out at the last minute.)
In the earlier days of Play, Fanny was known as "Faye," never Fanny.
Fanny's groupmates used to refer to her as the "chill" and "cool" one of the group, claiming that she always liked to "take it easy."
Copies of Replay that were purchased at Target stores featured a song that copies bought elsewhere did not. The track was titled "Unspeakable."
During some of the days spent filming "It's a Hard Knock Life," which was featured on the special anniversary edition DVD of Annie, Faye was sick, so Anaïs' older sister and fellow singer/songwriter, Amanda Lameche, filled in for her in some of the group shots.
In the Playin' Around the World DVD, Fanny is the only member of the group who does not participate in surfing lessons. Instead, she holds a waterproof camera and films her groupmates in action!
As a member of Play, Fanny was originally meant to record "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me" with all five members of Dream Street. However, plans fell through, and the girls recorded the song with only one member of the group, Chris Trousdale, instead. This song appeared on their self-titled EP and strongly aided the group in establishing a fan base with those who were already fans of Chris through Dream Street.
On the DVD single for "Us Against the World," the girls of the original Play lineup say in the "About Play" featurette that the group chose the name Play as a reference to 'playing music' and a reminder to always stay playful.
The European version of Play's self-titled (and first) album, titled Us Against the World, featured four songs that the version released in North America did not. They were "Never Neverland," "To Live And To Die For," "Remember To Forget," and "Watch Me Now." Another song, "Boys Lie," was recorded but never officially released, excepting for a short snippet of the song which was featured on Play's first single.
"Watch Me Now" was the song that got Play signed.
Unlike Anaïs Lameche and Anna Sundstrand, Fanny Hamlin and Rosanna Munter were both chosen by Laila to fill the remaining two positions in Play after they auditioned at an open casting call in Stockholm. When she introduced the girls for the first time, she was surprised to find that Faye and Rosie were not only schoolmates but best friends, as well.
